Abstract

This paper aims to present a brief and condensed history of musical research in South America, specifically with regard to traditional expressions. From the beginning of the century, the first systematic studies of traditional music began to appear in the different South American countries. In the 1930s it was already evident that ethnomusicological production was booming, intensified by the prolificacy of Carlos Vega and the appearance of a journal that centralized many isolated efforts, the Latin American Music Bulletin.
