Wáshington Delgado (1927-2003)

Abstract

On September 6, 2003, Washington Delgado left us. His departure is even more painful because he was in full activity: two weeks before he had given a very pleasant lecture in our Faculty (reproduced later in this issue), and in addition two of his books were ready to go into circulation. General is the sorrow that this loss has caused in our academic community and in the intellectual and artistic circles, because Washington Delgado was a very dear person, who enjoyed unanimous appreciation, which is undoubtedly a rare virtue. As a teacher, he aroused the enthusiasm of the students, he was the motivational professor par excellence, and all his students could evoke a multitude of anecdotes that confirm this statement. He possessed the gift of eloquence, an enormous expressive facility that made him not only a stimulating teacher, but also an excellent lecturer and an excellent conversationalist. That is why his teaching extended beyond the classroom, and he was constant in generously stimulating the young.
