Abstract

Edgardo Rivera Martínez's work overlaps with that of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega in an intertextual exercise that goes beyond a simple case of influence. Actually, there is a close correlation between the two. Literary criticism coincides in pointing out that Rivera Martínez's writing occurs at the confluence of two aspects: the western and the Andean in a process of unusual miscegenation due to his optimism. But like the Inca, in his work the harmony of the forms and ideas of classicism, the idealization of nature, and the exaltation of humanism typical of the Renaissance also emerge. The lyrical exaltation of the inherent harmony of the Andean environment is the attitude that informs the imaginary of our author, an attitude that will accommodate other and diverse cultural manifestations.
