A rhetoric of the character in The deep rivers of Jose Maria Arguedas
Abstract
Giovanni Bottiroli argues that rhetoric can be applied to the analysis of the characters because they can be metaphorical, metonymic, sinecdo-quic or antithetical. In Los ríos profundos by José María Arguedas, the-re are metaphorical characters like Ernesto and Antero, because their knowledge of the world are based on the principle of analogy; metony-mic, for example, like Lleras and the opa Marcelina ; sinecdoquic as the Principal and the Old man and antithetical, like the father of Ernesto and Peluca. This approach emphasizes how to use a rhetoric of character to address the narrative of Arguedas.Downloads
