Exemplary novels: a secular and religious metaphor of the universe

Abstract

The twelve "wonders" of Cervantes both as a whole and individually have been the subject of controversy. Until the twentieth century the novels that were least esteemed were the supposedly idealistic ones. In recent years these and the twelve stories together and separately are being greatly revalued.
